Porsche subsidiary supports females in leadership positions

Porsche Middle East announces Shurooq Zainal, an Emirati, as its first female director in their senior management team

Dubai. Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has appointed Shurooq Zainal to the position of Legal and Compliance Director. The announcement is part of an ongoing plan to encourage women to take up more roles in senior management positions.

Born and raised in Dubai (U.A.E.), Shurooq Zainal is also the organization’s first Emirati in the Director team. Following 11 years’ experience at an international law firm in their MENA Dispute Resolution Group, she joined Porsche’s regional office, in May 2018, overlooking legal and compliance matters for the brand in the Middle East, Africa and India.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Manfred Braeunl, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, said: “We continuously strive to achieve and maintain excellence in the areas of Legal, Compliance and Integrity. Over the past years, Shurooq has demonstrated the commitment, experience and merit that’s needed for such a role. We have complete faith in her abilities to execute these responsibilities in this region and congratulate Shurooq on her achievement.

“For me, Shurooq is a role model for Female Empowerment in what is considered a male dominated industry. Thanks to her hardworking attitude and dedication, she is also a leading example for Emirati nationals striving to break the glass ceiling within the private sector,” he added.

Zainal brings a wealth of experience as an expert in regional legal matters having graduated from the University of Sharjah with bachelor's degree (merit) in Sharia and General Law in 2002. Following this, Zainal was awarded a full scholarship for her academic and professional achievements by the current Ruler of Dubai to pursue her Masters degree abroad. Shurooq gained an LLM (Masters in Law) in Shipping and International Commercial Law with merit from the University of London.

Previously, Zainal was selected to mentor Emirati students and graduates at the UAE Ministry of Youth Affairs’ Youth Hub to share her experiences on working in the private sector.
